An OEE and downtime dashboard on one line, in Ignition

Pick one line. We build a downtime and OEE dashboard for it in Ignition, from the PLC that already runs it. TS Controls is Ignition certified.

When that line answers your questions, the same standard grows to the next line, and then to the whole plant.

What the dashboard shows

  • Run, idle, and fault states, read from the PLC
  • Good and reject counts by shift
  • Availability, performance, and quality, calculated from run time against planned time, the good and reject counts, and the ideal cycle time for each part
  • Stop reasons from the PLC where it knows them, and from operators where it does not

What is fixed up front

  • The line, and the machines and PLCs on it
  • Downtime categories, stop reasons, and the OEE rules, including what counts as planned downtime and the ideal cycle time for each part
  • The screens and the shift report
  • What done looks like, and the handoff

Scope and deliverables are agreed in writing before the build, so you know what you are getting.

How it runs

  1. We look at the line, the PLC, and what you track today.
  2. We agree the definitions and deliverables in writing.
  3. Where the PLC is missing a signal, we plan the change for an outage window.
  4. We build away from production, then check the counts against your manual counts over agreed shifts before anyone relies on them.
  5. We train operators to enter stop reasons and supervisors to read the report, and hand over the documentation and a gateway backup.

Growing to the whole plant

The tags, definitions, and screens are built to one standard, so the next line reuses them instead of starting over. Each new line is scoped the same way, one line or several at a time.

Straight answers

Questions we get.

Can you do this without replacing our PLCs?

Yes, where the PLC has the signals or a small change can add them. OEE needs a run signal and good and reject counts from each machine, plus an ideal cycle time for each part. If the PLC already has the signals, we collect them as they are. If it does not, the PLC change is scheduled for an outage window.

Do we need Ignition licenses?

Yes, unless the plant already runs an Ignition gateway with the modules the dashboard needs. Ignition is licensed by Inductive Automation; the scope lists the modules, so you can price licensing before the build.

Can we start on a line with an older PLC?

Yes. A PLC-5, SLC 500, or S7-300 line can report beside a new one. Older controllers on DH+, DH-485, MPI, or PROFIBUS can need a bridge or gateway first. We check that when we look at the line.

What happens after the first line?

You decide. The next line is scoped the same way and reuses the same standard, up to the whole plant.

What should we send?

The line, the machines and PLCs on it (make and model), what you track today and how, and your outage window.
