Servo cabinet, old ProMotion file, laptop with a new install. Tool wants a conversion I don't trust on a running line. Do you keep a VM with the old version, or is there a clean export that doesn't rewrite gains?

VM with the original version. Conversion is a project, not a click. Print the gain set from the drive HIM first so you have a paper baseline. Then convert a copy, never the only file. If the OEM still supports a viewer, use that to read, not to write.
